531. Repeal and savings.

(1) The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 is hereby repealed.

(2) Notwithstanding such repeal—

1. if, immediately before the date on which this Sanhita comes into force, there is any appeal, application, trial, inquiry or investigation pending, then, such appeal, application, trial, inquiry or investigation shall be disposed of, continued, held or made, as the case may be, in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, as in force immediately before that date, as if this Sanhita had not come into force;
2. all notifications published, proclamations issued, powers conferred, forms prescribed, local jurisdictions defined, reciprocal arrangements made, appointments made, contracts entered into, and sentences passed by any Court under the said Code and in force immediately before the commencement of this Sanhita, shall be deemed respectively to have been published, issued, conferred, prescribed, defined, made, entered into and passed under the corresponding provisions of this Sanhita;
3. any principle or rule of law, or established jurisdiction, form or course of pleading, practice or procedure, or existing usage, custom, privilege, restriction or exemption shall not be affected by this Sanhita although the same respectively may not be expressly specified in this Sanhita;
4. nothing in this Sanhita shall be construed as derogating from any power, privilege or right which, by or under any law for the time being in force, is conferred on, or accrued to, the Speaker or the Chairman of the Legislative Council of a State.
