In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,—

1. Board means the Coconut Development Board established under section 4;

1[(b) Chairman means the non-executive Chairman of the Board appointed under clause (a) of sub-section (4) of section 4; (ba) Chief Executive Officer means the Chief Executive Officer of the Board appointed under sub-section (1) of section 7;]

1. coconut means the fruit of coconut palm and includes green coconut, ripe coconut and copra.

Explanation.—Coconut palm means the coconut tree, CocosNucifera Linn;

1. coconut industry does not include—
2. coir industry; or

1. an industry from which products (including by-products) out of coconut oil are manufactured;

1. member means a member of the Board and includes the Chairman;
