(1)

This Act may be called the [Karnataka] [Adopted by the Karnataka adaptations of laws order 1973 w.e.f. 1.11.1973] Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1961.

It extends to the whole of the [State of Karnataka] [Adopted by the Karnataka adaptations of laws order 1973 w.e.f. 1.11.1973].

It shall come into force on such [date] [Act came into force w.e.f. 1.10.1964 by notification. Text of notification is at the end of the Act.] as the State Government may by notification appoint.

(4)

(a) It shall apply, in the first instance, to the areas specified in the Schedule to this Act, and to such other areas in which any of the Acts repealed by section 42 applied.

(b) It shall apply to any other area with effect from such date as the State Government may by notification specify which date shall not be earlier than the expiry of three months from the date of publication of such notification in the official Gazette.
