Whoever contravenes or attempts to contravene or abets the contravention of the provisions of this Act 1[or of any rules or regulations made thereunder] other than the provisions, punishment for the contravention whereof has been provided for in section 20 or section 23 or section 24, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may 2[extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to five thousand rupees, or with both] and in the case of a continuing contravention with an additional fine which may extend to fifty rupees for every day during which such contravention continues after conviction for the first such contravention.1 Subs. by Act 57 of 1985, s. 11, for "or of any rules made thereunder " (w.e.f. 1-12-1985). 2 Subs. by s. 11, ibid., for "extend to six months, or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees, or with both " (w.e.f. 1-12-1985).
